Ilkka Kuusisto: A Woman Like Frozen Champagne - Opera

 

A miniature opera (1999) in two acts for mezzo-soprano, dancer and piano trio.

Based on the diaries of Aino Kallas (1878–1956). The composer's libretto is based on Aino Piirola´s play of the same name. The poet girl, the wreath-weaver and the mother of the family becomes a wolf bride, an erotic one a poet of power and ecstasy, who in her diaries drops the beautifying curtains as well as her own for the events that caused the deterioration of her life.
