Helsinki Opera Summer

Helsinki Opera Summer is a unique open-air chamber opera and musical theatre festival that has been held since 2021. The 2026 programme will bring six stage works to the Aleksanteri Theatre, including a domestic premiere and an international visit from Britain. In addition, premieres will be seen in Kallio and the Old Church, and the whole is complemented by a diverse free programme from an opera amphitheater organized around the theatre to the Opera Wheel that travels through the city.

The core of the festival is the nurturing of domestic chamber opera and musical theatre. We offer professional groups and freelancers the opportunity to perform in Finland's old opera house and act as an exceptional platform for new works and a meeting place for artists. At the same time, we bring the most current open-air works to the audience, which refresh the importance of opera culture in our society.

The festival, organised by Greta Tuotanto, acts as a platform for open-air groups to bring their own productions to the stage. Since each group produces its own performances, the repertoire is exceptionally polyphonic. This model provides an important forum for composers and other artists, and focuses particularly on developing opera culture and highlighting new domestic works.
